The Young Carers Pembrokeshire Support service supports children and young people who help look after someone in their family who needs extra care or support. 

The service is delivered by Media Academy Cymru (MAC), working closely with Pembrokeshire County Council and local partners. 

Our focus is on making sure young carers feel supported, listened to, and able to thrive alongside their caring role. 

A young carer is a child or young person aged 5–25 who helps care for someone in their family who may be: 

Young caring can take many forms. You do not need to be providing full-time care to be a young carer — regular responsibility or support still counts. 

We understand that caring can be both rewarding and challenging. Our support is designed to fit around each young person’s life, strengths, and needs. 

Support may include: 

Support is always offered at a young person’s pace and with their involvement. 

Young carers, parents or carers, and professionals can make a referral to the service. 

Once we receive a referral, we will contact you to discuss next steps and potential support.

What is the Young Carers ID Card (YCID)? 

The Young Carers ID Card (YCID) helps you quickly show that you have caring responsibilities, so you don’t have to explain your situation every time. 

This card is part of a national plan funded by the Welsh Government and makes it easier for you to get support. In Wales, there are over 30,000 young carers. In Pembrokeshire, Media Academy Cymru will issue these ID cards to young carers under 18.
