Positive Masculinity

Overview of the Positive Masculinity Initiative

The Positive Masculinity Initiative is a dynamic program designed for young people aged 10-17. Our mission is to raise awareness and understanding around misogyny and gender-based violence, challenge negative behaviours, and encourage the development of positive masculinity. Through mentoring and educational sessions, we aim to empower young people to recognise and address positive masculinity in themselves and others, fostering a safer and more inclusive community.

Program Structure: To cater to the diverse needs of young people, we offer a flexible 3-tier approach:

  • Tier 1: A one-off bystander session designed to educate large groups on how to effectively respond to and intervene in situations involving toxic behaviours. This session aims to increase awareness and promote proactive behaviour among young people.
  • Tier 2: A tailored set of sessions specifically designed for young people on the periphery of displaying toxic behaviours. This tier ensures that the content is accessible and engaging, addressing the unique needs of these individuals while promoting positive masculinity.
  • Tier 3: The full number of sessions, providing in-depth engagement and education on various aspects of positive masculinity. This tier covers topics such as identifying toxic behaviours, LGBTQ+, peer group, mental health, social media and online gaming lobbies.

Our Goals:

  • Foster a more positive self-identity among young people.
  • Promote healthy and respectful relationships.
  • Increase understanding around misogyny and gender-based violence
  • Enhance reflective and critical thinking skills.
  • Increase personal safety and the safety of others.
  • Improve understanding of appropriate behaviours when witnessing toxic actions.

Young person aged 15 “I had a good time, I enjoyed talking to you and learning about controversial things. Interesting topics which people don’t always talk about.”

By engaging in the Positive Masculinity Initiative, young people can gain valuable insights and skills that help them navigate within their social environments more positively and confidently. Join us in creating a community where young people can thrive with a strong, safe, and positive sense of masculinity.
